Glenbrook Cables115 kV Transmission Ductbank System Connecticut

EIC constructed a 115 kV transmission ductbank system in Connecticut for Northeast Utilities. The system runs over 8 miles thought Stamford, Darien, and Norwalk.

The system includes three (3) circuits with 92 Vaults and 62 Handholds. It is designed for future 345 kV circuits.

The system runs under town roads, and state highways. It crosses under five (5) rivers, one of which consists of a ramming 36” and 30” steel pipe liners, each 100’ long, under the Norwalk River.

An essential component of the project was the installation of two (2) tunnels, though solid rock, under the Metro North Railroad in Darien, using a 60” Tunnel Boring Machine.
