WTC – Transportation Hub Foundations

Foundation and Site Work
October 2010 through March 2012
Value of work performed: $20,800,000

World Trade Center Transportation Hub FoundationsPart of the reconstruction of the WTC site included the establishment of a Transit Hub beneath the site that connected the PATH Station, World Financial Centers 1 - 4, WTC Freedom Tower, WTC 2, 3 and 4, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and NYC MTA subways on Church St. and Broadway. EIC Associates obtained a contract from the Port Authority through its construction manager, Tishman Turner JV, to build the foundation for this Transit Hub.

The work included the installation of 90+ rock anchors; 9000 CY of concrete footings, shear walls, slabs and foundation walls with 3.3 million pounds of rebar; waterproofing; plumbing; electric conduit and grounding; and, elevator pits in an excavation into rock 80 ft. below the surface.  The management of site logistics, manning, scheduling, quality control, security presented a significant challenge to EIC’s team.

Numerous changes in plans, scope, schedule, and access resulted in significant extra work and change orders, but in spite of these changes, all of the important milestones were met.
